The doctor was a figure of great humor to the people.
The Back Plague lasted c. 150 years: 1347-1500, and
reappeared after (1666). Thus doctors, astrologists
and others with useful knowledge were reviled, the
more so, as only the wealthy could afford such
"services". Not too different from our own times.
